If you have heard of PIIT28, you probably heard about the 28 Day Reset, the nutrition plan that is often marketed alongside the workout regimen. With a workout plan that is 28 days long, why not have a meal plan that is 28 days as well? Seems like it makes sense to start programs that are the same length. Or is this a ploy to get you to purchase another product? This 28 Day Reset review will dive into the details.
How does the 28 Day Reset work?
According to the PIIT28 website, where you can purchase the 28 Day Reset, “the way you eat is responsible for 80% of the way you look and feel.” The 28 Day Reset is not a diet. It is a 28-day challenge that aims to introduce you to a healthy lifestyle of clean eating by omitting certain foods from your diet and eating regularly. In this program, you will be omitting dairy, gluten, sugar, and processed grains for 28 days. After the 28 days is over, you should be able to determine whether or not you have an intolerance to the foods that were excluded from your diet while becoming more aware of your eating habits. To determine which foods you have an intolerance to, you will slowly reintroduce the foods to your diet and assess how you feel. There is also a vegan version of the plan available.
The Truth About Diets and Meal Plans
Here’s the thing to keep in mind: our bodies need a specific amount of calories just to function. No matter what you are or aren’t eating, your body is using energy to keep your organs and internal systems going. Additionally, your body uses energy for activities such as exercise, cleaning, working, and even resting.
As you would expect, your body gets the energy to do all that from the food you eat. In most cases, taking in less energy than you use means you will have a calorie deficit. In most cases, this means you lose weight.
Of course, not all calories are the same. 1000 calories from candy are going to be a lot different than 1000 calories from a plain salad as far as what is going on in your body when it’s being converted into energy.
This is why diets and meal plans can never be one size fits all. There is just so much to consider. You will need to take into account any dietary restrictions and preferences, what your workout schedule is like, and your budget, on top of what your goals are. As far as the 28 Day Reset goes, I made a list of the pros and cons I found to make it easier for you to decide if the 28 Day Reset is for you.
The Pros and Cons of the 28 Day Reset
The moment of truth. Do you really need the 28 Day Reset if you’re doing PIIT28? Again, keep in mind that this is more of a meal plan and not a diet.
- The fact that the 28 Day Reset aims to introduce a healthier way of eating makes it perfect for someone who is trying to make lifestyle changes but has no clue where to start. The 28 Day Reset can open your eyes to how your eating habits before comparing to one way you could be eating.
- The 28 Day Reset was made in collaboration with a certified nutrition coach and a dietetic technician. You can definitely trust that there was a lot of effort put into making sure this plan can work!
- The Facebook group is amazing! There are tons of men and women who are willing to support you and answer questions. Cassey even answers a few questions herself!
- The program is inclusive. There is a vegan version of the program for those who want it, so you won’t have to worry about modifying the plan yourself! There is also a substitution chart for further modifications if necessary.
- The plan isn’t restricting. You will eventually reintroduce the food items that you have been cutting off.
- There are over 150 (!) different recipes. The first part of the plan teaches you the basics of nutrition.
- Each recipe includes information about the calories and macros for those who want to use it.
- If you’re doing PIIT28, you start and stop both programs at the same time. This makes keeping track of days a lot easier if you decide to continue with PIIT28.
- It’s really easy to follow. Everything is laid out for you, including grocery lists!
- You don’t get a hard copy of the program. If you’re someone who enjoys having a book to look through, you will have to print it yourself.
- While the introduction covers the basics of nutrition, you don’t learn how to actually calculate your caloric needs based on your own needs. Someone who exercises 2-3 times a week will not need as many calories as someone who does intense exercises an hour a day, every day. This is extremely important! Eating too little can be just as harmful to your progress as eating too much!
- If you don’t keep up with your regimen, you will lose your progress. This is true for any and every diet and meal plan ever. You don’t have to do the 28 Day Reset for life; however, when you reintroduce the foods back into your diet, be mindful of what you learned about yourself. If you go straight back to how you ate before you started, you will go back to how you were before you started.
The Bottom Line
Do you need to watch what you eat when you’re working out? Yes, absolutely! Eating right is just as important as actually doing the workouts if you want to see results. Does the program you use have to be The 28 Day Reset? Not necessarily. I would say the biggest flaw with the 28 Day Reset is that it does not give you the resources to determine if the meal plans meet your dietary needs.
If you do decide that The 28 Day Reset is for you, I strongly recommend that you work with a professional that can guide you. It also doesn’t hurt to learn the science behind healthy eating!
